I've had good luck with modifying my running form to reduce heel strike. Also, try to run on softer surfaces when possible.
Bummer for Matt Hudson-Smith! That 400m final was insane. Congrats on the silver though! It's all about bouncing back from disappointment. Can't wait to see what he does next.
I've been in minimalist shoes for 3 years now and can attest they've helped my form. Less heel striking, more midfoot/forefoot landing. My IT band issues disappeared. That being said, it's not for everyone. You need to gradually transition and strengthen your feet. Not a quick fix, but worth it in the long run.
