I was in the same boat a few months ago. I went to a specialty running store and they did a gait analysis to determine my foot type. They also let me try on several shoes to see what felt comfortable. I'd recommend doing that instead of buying online.
That's good to know. I was thinking they might be more preventative than anything. Guess I'll hold off till I actually need them.

Yeah, I feel you. I'm still a beginner but I've had weeks where I just wanted to quit. Maybe take an extra rest day or two, reassess your goals, and remind yourself why you started in the first place. It's okay to not be okay.
