Honestly, I don't bother adjusting my pace or form. If I'm putting in the work on the treadmill, I expect to be able to translate that to the roads. It's all about mental toughness. If you're struggling to maintain your speed, maybe you need to revisit your training plan. Outdoor running has its own challenges, but it's not like it's a completely different sport.
Recovery runs are about feeling like crap, not about pace. If you're feeling tired, you're doing it right. Don't worry about the pace, worry about getting the miles in and recovering for the next hard workout.
I've gotten lost more times than I can count. Nowadays, I rely on a combo of GPS and memorizing key landmarks. Also, I make sure to study the route beforehand and have a rough idea of the direction I need to head in case my watch fails me.
