Running Abroad: Tips for Finding Safe Routes

I've been lucky enough to travel for work and pleasure quite a bit, and I always try to squeeze in a run or two while I'm away. But let's be real, it can be intimidating to navigate unfamiliar streets and find a safe route. What are your go-to strategies for finding a good place to run while traveling? Do you rely on Google Maps, ask locals, or look for running groups? Share your tips and tricks for staying safe and getting in a good workout on the road. Personally, I've had some close calls in the past, so I'm always looking for ways to improve my approach.

I always scope out the hotel gym or nearby parks before heading out for a run. If that's not an option, I'll stick to main roads and avoid alleys or quiet streets. Locals can be helpful, but I've had mixed results with their advice. Google Maps is okay, but it's not always accurate. Just be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts.

I've had my fair share of close calls too. One thing that's worked for me is to research the area beforehand and look for popular running routes or trails. I also try to stick to well-lit and populated areas, especially if I'm running early in the morning or at night. And yeah, trusting your instincts is key. If a route feels off, it's better to err on the side of caution.
