I've always been skeptical of static stretching before runs. I mean, if I'm about to go for a 5-miler, why am I standing still stretching my hamstrings? Dynamic stretches make way more sense to me. I do some light jogging, leg swings, and arm circles to get my blood flowing. Never looked back since I ditched static stretching.
Yeah, I've been there too. Frustrating as hell. For me, it was a combo of rest, stretching, and strengthening my calf muscles that finally got me back on track. Also, ditched my old shoes for a new pair with better support. Took a few months, but I was able to get back to my regular running routine. Hang in there, it'll get better.
Eccentric calf exercises were a lifesaver for me too. Also, ditching the heel striking and going midfoot/forefoot helped a lot. And yeah, rest and patience are a must, no shortcuts here.
Yeah, pole vault's a stretch, but hey, at least he's not just sitting on the couch. Maybe he'll start a new trend for retired skiers.
Mixing up routes helps, but let's be real, sometimes you just need to force yourself out the door and hope the motivation kicks in at mile 3.
