Cross Country Training in the Summer

I'm looking to incorporate more cross country style runs into my training this summer. Does anyone have any tips on how to find suitable trails and routes in your area? I'm also curious about how you modify your training to account for the added intensity of XC running. Do you focus on hill repeats, strides, or something else?

I've had success finding trails by asking other runners in my area for recommendations. It's amazing how many hidden gems are out there. As for modifying my training, I've been focusing on incorporating more strength work, specifically step-ups and single-leg squats, to help with the added intensity of XC running. It's all about building that explosive power to tackle those tough hills.

Good call on asking other runners for trail recommendations. I've also used online resources like Trailforks and AllTrails to find suitable routes. For training, I've found that hill repeats and strides are essential for building that explosive power. I also try to incorporate more agility drills to improve my footwork and balance on uneven terrain.

I'm also looking to incorporate more XC runs into my training this summer. One thing that's worked for me is using online trail maps to find routes in my area. I also try to mix up my training by incorporating more agility drills and plyometrics to help with the uneven terrain. It's all about building that functional strength, you know?

I've found that local running stores or outdoor gear shops often have knowledge on hidden gems for trail runs. They might even have group runs or events that can introduce you to new routes. As for training, I think it's key to incorporate some longer, slower runs on trails to build up your endurance and mental toughness. Hill repeats are great, but don't forget to throw in some recovery runs to avoid burnout.

Good point about local running stores, I'll def check that out. And yeah, recovery runs are crucial, don't want to risk injury before the season even starts.

Finding trails can be a pain, but I've had luck using local park websites or trail running groups on social media to find routes. Also, don't be afraid to explore and get a little lost - it's all part of the XC experience. As for modifying training, I focus on hill repeats and strength work to build up my legs. You can't replicate the intensity of XC running on a treadmill or road, so get out there and get dirty!
