Following a Plan to the Letter

I'm a beginner runner and I just got a training plan from a coach. It's pretty rigid and I'm wondering if I should follow it to the letter or make some adjustments based on how I'm feeling. Has anyone else had to deal with this? Do you stick to the plan no matter what or do you listen to your body and take rest days when needed? What are the pros and cons of each approach?

As an intermediate runner, I've been in your shoes. I think it's a balance. Follow the plan, but don't be afraid to take rest days if you need them. Your body will thank you. Don't be too rigid, but also don't make excuses to slack off. Find a middle ground that works for you.
