How to properly pace myself for a 400m dash?

I've been doing some track workouts and I'm having trouble figuring out how to pace myself for a 400m dash. I always seem to start too fast and then burn out by the 200m mark. Any tips from more experienced runners?

Honestly, it's not about pacing yourself, it's about being honest with yourself. You're not built for speed, you're built for endurance. Try doing some shorter sprints to work on your explosiveness, then come back to the 400m. And don't even get me started on 'track workouts'... what's wrong with good ol' fashioned road running?
