Winter Running Gear Must Haves

As the temperatures drop, I'm struggling to find the right gear to keep me warm and comfortable on my runs. What are your must-have items for cold weather running? Do you swear by a particular type of glove, hat, or base layer? I'm looking for recommendations to upgrade my winter running kit. Do you prioritize warmth or breathability?

I'm a bit of a newbie to winter running, but I've learned that a good pair of thermal leggings is essential. Look for ones with a waterproof coating to keep you dry. I also swear by a neck gaiter - it's like a scarf, but doesn't blow away in the wind. Prioritize warmth over breathability, at least for me. You can always adjust your pace if you get too hot.

Thermal leggings are a must-have for me too. I've got a pair from a local outdoor brand and they've been a game-changer. As for neck gaiters, I've got a few but I find myself using a balaclava more often. It covers more of my face and keeps the cold air out. Warmth over breathability all the way, at least for short runs.

For me, a good pair of waterproof socks is a must-have. I've tried a few different brands, but my favorite is still Smartwool. They're warm, breathable, and keep my feet dry even on the wettest days. I also recommend a hat with a visor to keep the sun and wind out of your eyes. Prioritize both warmth and breathability, you don't want to be too hot or too cold!

Smartwool socks are great, I also swear by them. For hats, I prefer a fleece one, it's warm and breathable. I agree, prioritize both warmth and breathability for a comfortable run.

Waterproof socks are a great call! I've had good experiences with SealSkinz too. For hats, I prefer a thin beanie that covers my ears, it makes a big difference on really cold days. I think it's all about finding a balance between warmth and breathability, you're right.
