Hey fellow runners, what's your take on cross-training? Does it actually help with running performance or just a way to avoid actual running?
I think it's worth it! Cross-training helps with injury prevention and can improve overall endurance. I like to mix in cycling and swimming to supplement my running.
Cycling and swimming are not substitutes for running, they're just different exercises. If you want to get better at running, you need to run.
Depends on the type of cross-training. If it's just casual yoga or cycling, probably a waste of time. But if you're doing high-intensity strength training or plyometrics, that can definitely improve running performance. Don't use it as an excuse to skip runs though.
Agree on the high-intensity strength training, it's helped me with my endurance and speed. Just remember to listen to your body and not overdo it, we don't want injuries!
Honestly, I think it's a bit of both. Cross-training can help with injury prevention and mental breaks, but if you're not careful, it can distract from actual running progress.
Agree with that. For me, cross-training is about supplementing my running, not replacing it. It's helped me build strength and endurance, but I make sure to prioritize my runs.
