Realistic Goal Setting

How do you set realistic goals for yourself? I've been guilty of setting lofty goals only to fall short and get discouraged. What's your approach to setting achievable goals that still challenge you? Do you set process-oriented or outcome-oriented goals?

I'm a big believer in setting small, incremental goals. It's easy to get caught up in wanting to achieve some big, lofty goal, but let's be real, most of us aren't going to go from couch to marathon in a few months. I set goals that are just out of reach, but still achievable with some hard work. That way, when I hit them, I feel a sense of accomplishment and it motivates me to keep pushing. And let's be honest, it's not about the goal itself, it's about the work you put in to get there.

Small, incremental goals are the way to go. I've fallen into the trap of setting lofty goals too, but it's just setting yourself up for disappointment. Break it down into smaller, manageable chunks and you'll be surprised at how much more achievable it becomes. It's not about the goal, it's about the daily grind.

Realistic goal setting is all about being honest with yourself. Don't set a goal just because it sounds good or because you think you should be able to do it. Set a goal because you're willing to put in the work to achieve it. For me, it's about setting goals that scare me a little, but not so much that I give up before I even start. And yeah, process-oriented goals are the way to go. It's not about the end result, it's about the daily grind and making progress. That's what keeps me motivated.

I like that approach. Setting goals that scare you a little is a great way to challenge yourself without getting discouraged. Process-oriented goals are key, it's all about making progress and celebrating small wins.
