Speed Workouts for Older Runners

As an older runner, I've found that incorporating speed workouts into my routine can be challenging. I've tried interval training and hill repeats, but I'm not sure if I'm doing them correctly. How do you incorporate speed workouts into your training, and what modifications do you make as you age? Do you focus on shorter, more intense intervals or longer, more endurance-based workouts?

Honestly, I'm still figuring it out myself. I've been doing interval training, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right either. I've been focusing on shorter, more intense intervals, but I'm not seeing much improvement. Maybe I just need to be more consistent?

I'm with you on that, consistency is key. As I've aged, I've found that shorter, more intense intervals work better for me too. Try reducing the distance and increasing the rest time between intervals. Also, focus on proper form and technique, that's more important than speed.

Consistency is key, but also don't be afraid to mix it up.

I'm in a similar boat! As I've gotten older, I've found that shorter, more intense intervals work better for me. I focus on 400-800m repeats with active recovery in between. It's all about finding what works for you and being patient with progress.

Yeah, I feel you. As I've gotten older, I've had to adjust my speed workouts too. I've found that shorter intervals with active recovery work best for me too. It's not about being fast, it's about being consistent and listening to your body. I've also had to accept that my times might not be what they used to be, but that's just part of aging, right? 💪

I'm 45 and still trying to figure it out too. I do shorter intervals, 200-400m, with longer recoveries. It's not about being fast, it's about feeling like I'm still getting some speed in.

Shorter intervals with longer recoveries is a good approach.
