Half Marathon Training: How Many Long Runs Do You Need?

I'm training for my third half marathon and I'm wondering how many long runs are really necessary. I've been doing 2-3 10-mile runs before tapering, but I've heard some people do more or less. What's your approach to long runs in half marathon training? Do you think it's better to do more frequent shorter long runs or fewer longer ones?

I've found that 2-3 longer runs (12-13 miles) are enough for me, as long as I'm consistent with my weekly mileage. Anything more and I risk burnout. I'd rather do fewer, quality long runs than try to cram in extra miles just for the sake of it. What's your weekly mileage looking like?

I'm with you on that. I've found that 2-3 longer runs are sufficient, especially if you're consistent with your weekly mileage. I've tried doing more, but it just leads to fatigue and increased risk of injury. Quality over quantity is the way to go, in my opinion.

I'm a beginner, so take my opinion for what it's worth, but I think 2-3 longer runs sound about right. I've been doing 1-2 8-mile runs and that's been working for me. I'm not sure I could handle more than that without risking injury. Consistency is key, right? I'm averaging around 20-25 miles per week.
