Running Communities: Online vs In-Person

I've been a part of this online community for a while now, but I've been thinking about joining a local running group. Has anyone else done both? Which one do you prefer? Do you find that online communities are more supportive or do in-person groups push you harder? Let me know your thoughts.

I've been fortunate to have experienced both. Online communities are great for advice and motivation, but nothing beats the accountability and camaraderie of an in-person group. There's something about showing up to a group run on a cold morning that keeps you honest. That being said, I think both have their place. Online communities are perfect for those who can't make it to in-person meetups, or for when you need a quick tip or advice. But if you want to take your running to the next level, find a local group and get involved.

I've also done both and I agree, they complement each other well. Online communities are great for convenience and variety of perspectives, but in-person groups provide that extra motivation and social aspect that's hard to replicate online.

I've also done both, and I think you're spot on. Online communities are great for convenience and accessibility, but there's no substitute for the motivation and accountability you get from running with a group in person. Nothing like having someone to suffer with on a tough run to keep you going.
