Running Culture: Let's Not Get Too Carried Away

I love running as much as the next guy, but sometimes I feel like our community gets a bit too full of itself. We're not curing cancer here, folks. We're just running. Don't get me wrong, it's a great hobby and all, but let's keep things in perspective. I'm tired of seeing posts about how running 'changed my life' or how it's 'the best thing that's ever happened to me.' Come on, it's just running. Let's not forget that.

Preach. I'm so sick of these 'running saved my life' sob stories. You know what saved your life? Not being a lazy ass and getting off the couch. Running's great and all, but let's not get too dramatic here. It's just a hobby, not a freaking miracle cure.

I get where you're coming from. Running is amazing, but it's not the only thing that matters. Humility is key, especially when others are struggling with real issues.

Exactly. It's like, I'm happy for you that you found a hobby you love, but let's not act like it's the solution to world peace. There are people out there dealing with real problems, and we're over here talking about our 'epic' 5Ks.
