Running while traveling - how do you find routes?

I'm planning a trip to a new city soon and I'm wondering how you all find routes to run when you're in a new place. I've tried using Google Maps but it's not always the most runner-friendly. Do you ask locals for recommendations or use a specific app? Any tips would be appreciated!

Google Maps is a good start, but it's not perfect. I've had better luck with MapMyRun or Strava's route builder. They've got a huge database of user-created routes, so you can usually find something that's been vetted by other runners. And if all else fails, I just ask my hotel concierge or a local running store for a recommendation. They usually know the area and can point you to a decent route.

Honestly, I just wing it. I'll pick a direction and go. Yeah, it's not always the most scenic or efficient route, but it's an adventure, right? If I'm feeling really lost, I'll stop and ask someone for directions. I've never had a bad experience doing that. Don't overthink it, just get out there and run.

Winging it can be fun, but it's not always the best use of your time. I've found that a quick internet search for 'best running routes in [city]' usually yields some great options. You can also try looking for local running groups or clubs - they often have routes mapped out and can give you insider tips. Don't rely on chance, do a bit of prep and you'll have a much better run.

Strava's route builder is your friend. It's not perfect, but it's better than Google Maps. You can also look for local running groups or clubs in the area you're visiting, they usually have routes mapped out. And if all else fails, just go out and explore. It's not like you're gonna get lost forever.

Explore and get lost, that's half the fun!

Yeah, Strava's route builder is decent. But honestly, I just use my phone's GPS and wing it. It's not that hard to figure out a decent route, and it's more fun that way. Don't overthink it, just go run.
